OUR RESEARCH
Bisphenol A (BPA)
BPA is a high production volume chemical and BPA products have permeated the daily lives
of people in many ways. BPA resists microbial degradation in the absence of oxygen but is susceptible
to abiotic degradation by manganese dioxide (MnO2). We explore the microbiology involved in the
formation of MnO2 and perform detailed mechanistic studies to unravel if oxic-anoxic interfaces
are hotspots for BPA degradation.
