OUR RESEARCH
Chlorinated volatile organic compounds (cVOCs)
We study bacteria that use cVOCs as electron acceptors in a process known as organohalide respiration.
Detailed studies of mixed microbial and axenic bacterial cultures unravel the biology and ecophysiology of microorganisms of interest, and generate information for exploiting organohalide-respiring bacteria for contaminated site cleanup. Collaborations with remediation practitioners ensure that new findings are rapidly transitioned and implemented at field sites.
